What is the Dawson HPH hydraulic piling hammer?

A hydraulic piling hammer lifts a ram hydraulically and then drops it onto the pile head in a controlled way. Dawson HPH hammers hang from a crane or excavator and drive both steel sheet piles and all types of bearing piles, such as tubular piles and H-sections. With the adjustable stroke, you set the impact energy to suit the pile and the soil.

The HPH2400e has intelligent stroke control and shows the energy of each blow on screen, with a full history of hammer performance. Few serviceable parts and on-screen fault diagnostics keep the hammer available. For heavy offshore applications, Dawson also builds larger hammers.

Who is the Dawson HPH for?

The HPH hammers are made for foundation companies, sheet piling contractors and marine contractors who drive sheet piles and piles, for example for quay walls, bridges, trench shoring and foundations, and want to control and monitor the energy per blow.

Technical specifications of the Dawson HPH

The key data of the Dawson HPH, according to Dawson:

  • HPH1200: ram weight 1,040 kg, impact energy 6.2 to 12.0 kNm
  • HPH2400: ram weight 1,900 kg, impact energy 10.0 to 24.0 kNm
  • Application: steel sheet piles, tubular piles, H-sections and other bearing piles
  • HPH2400e: energy monitoring per blow on screen, performance history and fault diagnostics
  • Mounting: on crane or excavator

What do these specifications mean?

The ram weight and impact energy determine how heavy the piles are that you can drive. You adjust the energy: lower for light sheet piles and at the start, higher for heavy piles and hard layers. The crane or rig must safely carry the weight of the hammer with leaders.
