What is the SBH S650 drag box?

The SBH S650 is a drag box, made for trench work in open terrain and stable soil. It secures only the area where the pipes are laid. The end faces remain open and are sloped according to the ground conditions. You excavate further ahead, then pull the drag box through the trench to the new working position. Behind the box, you backfill and compact the trench.

The plates are 127 mm thick and come in lengths of 2.50 to 5.50 metres, with a height of 2.50 or 3.00 metres. With a 1.50 metre top box you go deeper. Van Haut has already supplied the S650 in sizes such as 4 x 3 m, 5 x 3 m, 5.5 x 3 m and 7 x 2.5 m, and also with inner plates.

Who is the S650 for?

The drag box is made for contractors laying long pipelines in open terrain: dry and temporarily stable soil, without crossing pipes or cables, away from buildings and roads, and where some settlement is acceptable. For work in town, a standard box or slide rail shoring is a better choice.

Technical specifications of the S650

The key data of the S650, according to SBH:

  • Installation depth: up to 3.00 m, with top box + 1.50 m
  • Trench width: 1.15 to 6.15 m
  • Clearance under the spindle (hc): 1.69 to 1.82 m
  • Plate length: 2.50 to 5.50 m
  • Plate height: 2.50 or 3.00 m
  • Plate thickness: 127 mm
  • Excavator: mobile or crawler excavator of 30 to 50 t

What do these specifications mean?

The installation depth is the maximum trench depth the system protects safely. The working width is the clear space between the plates, the trench width the total width from outside to outside. The clearance under the strut or spindle (hc) determines how large the pipes are that you can slide underneath. The recommended excavator tells you which machine can install and pull the system.

Benefits of the S650 drag box

The S650 at a glance:

  • Drag instead of lift and place: fast progress on long routes.
  • Strong: 127 mm thick plates.
  • Deeper with top box: up to 1.50 m extra.
  • Made to measure: many lengths and heights possible.
  • Efficient backfilling: compact right behind the box.

How much does a drag box cost?

We do not publish prices online. Every request is handled personally, because the configuration, options and delivery differ from project to project. This way you receive a quotation that truly fits your work, for purchase or for rental.

What determines the price?

The price of a S650 depends on the plate length and height, the struts or spindles and extension pieces, any top elements and transport to the site. For rental, the duration of your project also plays a role. We put the system together based on your trench depth and width.
